Augsburg celebrates Six Decades of Dominance

On Jan­u­ary 22, 2010, the Augs­burg Col­lege wrestling pro­gram cel­e­brated “Six Decades of Dom­i­nance,” mark­ing the six­ti­eth an­niver­sary of the program’s found­ing in 1949 by Edor Nel­son and Oliver Dahl. Be­fore the sched­uled meet with the Uni­ver­sity of Ne­braska at Om­aha — the num­ber one team in Di­vi­sion II — the pro­gram held a short cel­e­bra­tion with a pre­sen­ta­tion of the wrestling team’s his­tory. Augs­burg — the num­ber one team in Di­vi­sion III — de­feated UNO 18–12. Af­ter the meet, an­other gath­er­ing was held at Sgt. Preston’s bar, but I didn’t shoot that. Click to continue »

Ne­braska — Om­aha wrestler Austin Boehm at­tempts a black­flip in an ef­fort to es­cape from Augs­burg wrestler Brad Baus in the 184 pound bout in a dual meet be­tween UNO and Augs­burg in Min­neapo­lis, Minn. on Jan­u­ary 22, 2010. Boehm, the sixth-ranked wrestler in Di­vi­sion II, de­feated Baus 13–6, while Augs­burg up­set the Mav­er­icks 18–12 in the bat­tle of top-ranked teams in Di­vi­sion II and III.

Jayson Ness pins his way through the Auggie Open

On No­vem­ber 21, I had the priv­i­lege of shoot­ing Uni­ver­sity of Min­nesota wrestler Jayson Ness pin his way through the Auggie-Brute-Adidas Open at Augs­burg Col­lege in Min­neapo­lis, Minn. Ness — the second-ranked wrestler in NCAA Di­vi­sion I and three-time All-American — had no prob­lems with his Di­vi­sion II and III and NAIA opponents.
